SANDSTONE
This is a clastic sedimentary rock which is mainly composed of quartz composite particles and clay. It comes in many colors, including various shades of gray, yellow, brown, and red. The individual parts of the stone are of varied composition and hence the properties, i.e. the frost resistance, hardness, color. Sandstone is used both as a building and finishing material. The granular structure does not allow for the sandstone to be polished but its tendency to split makes for most types a very good material for facades, fireplaces, wall coverings and windowsills. The wet sandstone is brittle and soft; therefore, it is easy to work with. When it dries, it hardens substantially. This percolative and porous stone is not resistant to dirt and stains and that is why you won’t see it the kitchens or bathrooms.
